Brennan is going in for an MRI tomorrow up at PCMC.
His saturation levels went from high 90's to 70 in 1 week. The Cardiologists and Surgeons are very concerned about the size of his pulmonary and need the MRI to decide whether to place the BT shunt to hold him off or to just go ahead and do the full TOF repair. We are hoping for the repair, one surgery instead of two.
He has to be sedated and needless to say my wife and I are very nervous. Has anyone experienced this and if so what should I expect?
Thanks,
Randall Adams

No experience with this situation, but we wish you the best of luck tomorrow.

I am sorry to read of his sudden drop in saturations in a week's time. That had to be so confusing and scary. I am sure the Doctors will present the best option for Brennan after the MRI, but I am with you. . one surgery is always better than two. Keep us posted as to how the MRI goes. . .I will be thinking of you all.

Our son has had a few MRI's and it is pretty easy on the child. Typically, you will get to take your child and meet with the anesthesiologist who will have you sign a lot of paperwork. They will let you go with them to a point and then the doctors will take you baby and start some IV's and begin sedation medication. Kids have to be paralyzed in an MRI to get clear picture, so they put them under. In our experiences, they have also done an echo at the same time just to view the heart from a few angles. When they are complete, they will call you and you will meet with the doctors to discuss results while your child goes into a post anesthesia recovery area. One of you will get to join your baby right away and the other parent will need to wait until the medication has worn off a little and you are moved to a recovery area where there is more room. Good luck tomorrow!

It's not too bad, but the only thing is when Kylie had her MRI before her Glenn, her sats were low 80's and after her MRI they couldn't get her above 80, so we ended up coming home with O2 until her Glenn, so who knows. I hope things go well. Oh and Kylie is a very hard poke, so I would ask for the IV team for sure. GOOD LUCK we will be thinking of you guys! Maybe it's just a cold or something?
