I love that February is Heart Month... Okay, this is mostly because of Valentines but I am going to change it to Heart Month for us.In the last issue of our Newsletter it talked a little about Feb 7th-14th being CHD Awareness week. Some of the activities that we do for IHH are: We take cute heart shaped cookies to PCMC for all of the nurses, Dr.s, current families, techs, and surgeons. In the past we have taken pizza too. We set up a table on the third floor that has info and little trinkets. Last year was the first year that we had a big banner out on the parking unit. It will be out there again this year... (I hope this helps people to remember that we are celebrating our little heart heroes. ) We have gone to Taylor Andrews hair Academy to show off our kids and talk to them about CHDs. They do a fund raiser for us that helps out a ton. I am pretty sure we will do it again this year and I will need helpers in Layton, West Jordan, Orem and if someone lives in St. George they have another location there that I am sure would let us come. I just can't make it there. LOL.. My little family has made pins in the past that we have passed out. We made hearts out of that bake able clay. It was really fun and easy. We petitioned our local gov to make CHD week official. A lot of what CHD week is about is YOU. Doing something to make a difference to get the word out to tell people that this is effecting many many children and families. I have heard of Heart Parties where a family will throw a party for all of their neighbors with treats and a bucket for donations to the group... I want to do this but have no idea how yet. Don't think that because you are just a member that you can't do something. YOU CAN... Celebrate your Heart Child.... If you have a great Idea share it with the rest of us. We don't really get together as a group during the winter because of sickness. That doesn't mean that we can't share what we do here... Just think, if we all did something small how big the awareness would become. I love that Traci has a connection with a radio station and is willing to put the word out that way... If you think you might be able to help with something like that let me know. For the past two years we have tried to get a small segment on Good things Utah. I think Paul is going to be on it this year... So way to go Paul...

Oh yeah, sorry I forgot the Ice skating event.. If you want to get involved you can come to the event. Also you could go to your older children's schools and take a few minutes to talk to them about CHD's and you can help at Taylor Andrews. We try to wear our heart walk shirts. YOu could ask your neighbors for things that we can use in the carebags. You could get your youth groups involved in doing something for the group. These are just a few things.

Brynn,

It seems like I remember that last year you were looking for help with the fundraiser at a beauty school in Idaho Falls. Are you doing that again this year? If so, we are here now and I would love to help out if you need it!

I'd love to help at PCMC too. Maddox has cardio on the 9th, and I'm willing to come up other days too. Let me know! I can make heart shaped cookies or pick stuff up.

I think that is great that you all want to help. . .the more the merrier.

That is so nice of you to offer to help bake cookies. In an effort to keep things the same, we have a bakery that will be donating the cookies to be handed out at PCMC. Having them come from a commercial bakery lessons the libality that IHH assumes in bringing them into the hospital where everything is sterile.

Maybe you can make cookies for neighbors, friends, or family and put a note with them concerning facts about CHD's.

I was thinking of meeting at the hospital at 11:00a.m. on Sunday for all who would like to help set up the table, deliver the cookies, and work with getting the hospital to put up the banner.:)

Traci that would work great if you could take a look at the table display and see if we need to refill it on the 9th. Also could you call me at 801 633-7207 when you get a chance.

Thanks!:)

Mike,
I checked out the table yesterday, it still had plenty of brochures on it. There were 2 empty tins though, so not sure if they used to have stickers in them or something else? The bowls that I saw stickers were in were getting low.

Hi Everyone,

First of all I want to Thank Mike for overseeing the activities that took place during CHD Week. He and his wife Rebecca were able to get the table set up and decorated on Sunday the 7th and distributed the cookies that I was able to get donated from Payson Market Bakery through-out the Hospital. Thanks to all those that took time to keep the table straightened during the week.

On Monday, IHH provided Pizza from the Pie to the Cardiology Department. This was our way of thanking them for all that they do for our families. I got feedback that it was definitely appreciated and enjoyed.

Thanks to all of those that were able to make it to Paul's concert last night (Monday 15th). It was an amazing and inspiring evening. A special thank you to the IHH Volunteers that helped with the Silent Auction: Kevin and Kim Simon, Thomas and Adrienne Orrock, Penny and Bethany Coleman, Kenny and Michelle Kingsford and my friend, BreAnn Perkins, it was very much appreciated!

It was great to meet up with those from IHH that could attend the concert and for them to see the picture of their loved one on the posters. If you have not sent in a picture, please consider in doing so, the more pictures we get we will add more posters. . .Michele Kingsford has done an excellent job in putting them together.

See you at the IHH Olympic Oval Event this Saturday, February 20, 2009 from 1-4 p.m.
