I found this link and thought it might be helpful to others. It will show you the levels for RSV and other nasty junk going around. As for us, we are really stuck inside until at least late June, regardless of when RSV goes away. With Emma's surgery on May 5th, we are keeping her isolated until she is recovered.

I would love to hear how long it took other kids to recover from open heart surgery, we were told 6 weeks for her sternum to heal and then she would be ready to roll.

So if you are stuck inside like her, check out the link.

That is an awesome link and information! I wish I could have watched that last year went we were on house arrest with Jacob. I am glad RSV is starting to drop off. Thanks for posting that!

That is such a great website. Thanks for sharing!

Regarding how long it took to recover from surgery, Jack had his Glenn in January when he was 6 months old, just about the time he was starting to get ready to roll. We were very careful (not picking him up under his arms) for 2 weeks, then pretty careful for another week, but by the 4th week he really didn't show any discomfort. By the time we brought him home a week after his surgery he was rolling side to side on his own and wiggling all over the place. I think I stopped giving him pain medication after just 2 or 3 weeks because he didn't need it any more. It's amazing how fast kids can bounce back.

That's our experience.

Good luck with Emma's surgery!

My daughter Addison just had open heart for an AV Canal defect. She was six months on the 22nd. We were able to leave the hospital in just 5 days. She stopped taking any pain meds except tylenol on the fourth day, and still needs it occasionally. She just rolled over for the first time and it doesn't seem to be bothering her. We still don't pick her up under her arms, but she is sitting up and is as happy as ever, if not even stronger than before! Good Luck!
